The most popular cruise ports you’ll visit in Croatia are Dubrovnik and Split. These large coastal cities are loved by visitors due to their historic Old Town areas.
Mediterranean bliss, ancient-kingdom charm and stunning national parks are just some of the things that Croatia offers, as it slithers down the continent towards Montenegro. But would any holiday here – whether a romantic weekend break or a marvellous long escape – be complete without some downtime kicking back on the beach? No matter where you visit – from Split to Zadar to Dubrovnik – you’ll find gold sands and smooth pebbles hugging the coast. Here is a hand-picked selection of the best spots and hidden treasures along Croatia’s shoreline, as well as some must-dos to make the most of the great outdoors in this captivating country.
Croatia's culinary traditions boast influences from many other cultures, including Italy, Austria, Hungary, and the Balkans. Sharing food and drink plays a big part in the culture here, which speaks both to the nature of Croatian hospitality and to the quality of local produce. Simple, homestyle cooking is a feature of family-run taverns, but increasingly a new breed of chefs are bringing a more adventurous approach to the table. Meanwhile, Croatian wines and olive oils are making their mark on the world stage, garnering top awards.
You can go wine tasting, taste olive oils, or shuck oysters, all while sipping unique heritage wine varietals that thrive in Croatia's harsh soils. If there were a list of the most famous Croatian food, peka (also called Cripnja, depending on where you live) would unquestionably be on that list.
Peka is, however, not really a food but a method of cooking food. The peka is a dome or bell-shaped terracotta or steel lid that you heat by burning wood below it. Once heated, you place the food you wish to cook in a round-shaped tray underneath the peka and put embers on top of the peka itself, which then cooks your food.
Flying into Croatia is the most popular way to arrive in the country, however there are also great bus and self-drive options.
We suggest taking light clothes, shorts, T-shirts, bathing suits, sandals and similar, and a few long arm shirts, long pants or wind jacket for possible colder weather and breezy nights. Do not forget the hat, sunglasses and sun cream. In case you forget something, it is possible to buy summer clothes and equipment in most of the harbors
Our onboard cook is able to cater for vegetarians and travellers with special dietary requests. If you are allergic to certain foods, please specify in advance what this includes. We will note this so the cook can be prepared.
